Has anyone found a way to incentivize filling out Data Management Plans (stick v. carrot)?
One way to incentivize is to require data management plans (DMPs) before funding is distributed as a part of the proposal phase. Having someone review the plans before and provide feedback is also helpful. If withholding funding is not an option, you could provide data management training before the project starts and discuss data management best practices, the importance of data management plans, and set deadlines for DMPs and data submission.
